Mites Most Important Probelems

Mites are a broad category of pests that do a variety of damage. Some mites feed on stored grain and cheese products, while others are  animals parasites including human.  While mites pierced or bite, their bites are small and usually not painful, producing only mild skin irritation. Frequent itching caused by mites may lead to more serious bacterial infections.
Mites seldom contact with human but some if do, can affect contacted person health. The identification of mites bites and its afftects must be varified as irritation could be real from a mites or from other orthropods insects or due non-living entices e.g. chemicals, physilological.  On the other hand, dust mites are one of the most common allergens and can even trigger asthma attacks.

Following mites are main concern as structural pest; 

• Clover Mites;   ​These are lawn or garden mites and prominent annoying mites, do not bite or cause any health issues. If they enter the home in large numbers then are very irritating for occupants as you crawl over carpet or floor, crushed mites leave red stain.  These mites feed on clover, ivy, grasses, fruit trees and other plants and are more active in fall and as their population grows, dry and hot weather forces them to seek refuge in the structure. Clover mites females lay eggs without fertilization and that's why their population grows very fast.
• Dust Mites; These mites' main problem is their airborne feces and are most common indoor allergens.  Like cockroaches feces allergy, dust mites are also implicated in triggering asthma attacks. These mites do not live on humans and primarily feed on dander, flakes of dead skin that fall from people on furniture, pillows and mattresses.
• Rodent and Bird Mites;  ​These mites are of most concern for people as they bite people if their original host mice, rats and birds die or in other words the host is not available. Their biting causes a rash around the bite and irritation. Rodent mites live in warm places e.g. around hot air pipes,  water tank areas. Rodent mites feed on rats during night and hide by day in cracks and crevices around rat and mice nests.

How Control Mites

• Mites Identification; Mites control methods mainly depend on the type of mite and its host as mites often stay close to the source.
• For indoor mites cleaning and vacuuming is the best method to control and gradually eradicate mites. Vacuuming should be done on carpets, furniturem rugs and thougly crackes and crivices near mites staying areas e.g. pets bedding.   
• Remove and wash mite-infested fabrics in hot water and dry on high heat.
• Rodent Control; Control of mice, rats and birds nesting inside the structure is also a very effective method, remove and sanitize birds' nests and exterminate rodents and sanitize their activities area. 
  
• Vegetaion Management;  ​This method helps in reducing plant feeding mites population e.g. clover mites.  Cut and trim overhanging branches around the structure  e.g. windows and door. Mow grass regularly, do not fertilize grass or turf too much as tall and lush grass harbor mites and rodets, espacilay mice.
